Basketball Recap: Bandys Extends Home Winning Streak to Five

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Bandys walked away with it. They strolled past the Forest Hills Yellow Jackets with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 80-62. Given the Trojans' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 152nd, while the Yellow Jackets are ranked 313th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Bandys had a senior duo take command as Landon Vaughan almost dropped a double-double with 25 points and nine rebounds and Easton Ledford dropped a double-double with 17 points and 11 boards. Vaughan's evening made it 13 games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Evan Robinson, who went 5-for-9 to rack up 13 points and five rebounds.

Bandys smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

When it comes to explaining why Forest Hills lost, don't look at Amari Melton. Despite the final result, he posted 25 points and three steals. Melton continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Makhi Massey, who earned 11 points and four steals.

Bandys pushed their record up to 20-7 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Forest Hills, their loss dropped their record down to 13-15.

Looking ahead, Bandys will take on Shelby on Tuesday. One thing working in Shelby's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 17 contests. Forest Hills does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
