Football Game Preview: Edcouch-Elsa Yellowjackets vs. Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest Javelinas

Edcouch-Elsa is a perfect 4-0 against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest since October of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Yellowjackets will head out to take on the Javelinas at 7:00 p.m. Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Edcouch-Elsa, who comes in off a win.

Edcouch-Elsa is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took down Pace 32-17 on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Yellowjackets.

Edcouch-Elsa's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aydan Garcia, who rushed for 121 yards and a pair of scores on only 14 carries. Those 121 rushing yards gave Garcia a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jason Pena, who rushed for 47 yards and one touchdown.

Meanwhile, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They took a blow against Mercedes, falling 48-7. While losing is never fun, the Javelinas can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 1133rd, while the Tigers are ranked 480th).

The victory got Edcouch-Elsa back to even at 4-4. As for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.

Everything came up roses for Edcouch-Elsa against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, as the team secured a 34-7 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Yellowjackets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
