Basketball Game Preview: Pueblo West Cyclones vs. Pine Creek Eagles

The Pueblo West Cyclones will take on the Pine Creek Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Last Monday, Pueblo West ended up a good deal behind Vista Ridge and lost 66-47. While losing is never fun, the Cyclones can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 85th, while the Wolves are ranked 34th).

Meanwhile, Pine Creek came tearing into Saturday's contest with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 40.9 points) and they left with even more momentum. They breezed past the Trojans to the tune of 71-19. With the Eagles ahead 44-4 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

Pueblo West's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-10. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.0 points over those games. As for Pine Creek, they pushed their record up to 17-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home.

Pueblo West took a serious blow against Pine Creek when the teams last played back in January, falling 65-24. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Pine Creek's Leekaya Burke-Perryman, who went 7 of 13 en route to 15 points along with five assists and five steals.
