El Capitan has gone 8-2 against Grossmont recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Vaqueros will welcome the Foothillers at 4:00 p.m. El Capitan's pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so Grossmont's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
El Capitan came into this matchup off a tough six-run defeat on Tuesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Steele Canyon by a score of 5-3 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Vaqueros have suffered since March 12th.
Addison Higuera put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. Higuera was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Quinnley Morehouse was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season.
Meanwhile, after some red-hot attacks at the plate in their last three matchups, Grossmont finally came back down to earth on Friday. They came up short against Clairemont, falling 9-0. The game marked the first time this season in which the Foothillers were not able to get on the board.
Grossmont's defeat dropped their record down to 9-6-1. As for El Capitan, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-8 record this season.
Monday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. El Capitan hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .313. However, it's not like Grossmont struggles in that department as they've averaged .336. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
El Capitan came out on top in a nail-biter against Grossmont in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, sneaking past 6-4. Do the Vaqueros have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Foothillers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
