Basketball Recap: Lasara Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Lasara can now relate to. They had to suffer through a 64-26 loss at the hands of the Nueces Canyon Panthers. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1421st, while the Panthers are ranked 666th).

Nueces Canyon's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Madison Sifuentes, who went 8 for 16 en route to 22 points. Sifuentes is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as she's posted one of at least 45% in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Idrianna DeLeon, who went 6 of 11 on her way to 12 points in addition to seven steals and six boards.

Lasara's defeat dropped their record down to 10-15. As for Nueces Canyon, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 28-5 record this season.

Lasara does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Nueces Canyon, they will take on Round Top-Carmine on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Round Top-Carmine comes in on 12 and Nueces Canyon on seven.
