Baseball Recap: Saturday's Win Is Providence's Ninth in Last Ten Outings

Providence extended their postseason success on Saturday against Switzerland County. They blew past the Pacers 12-0. The Pioneers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Gavin Jackson made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. Those 13 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lucas Mauk, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cole Huett, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Providence always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Switzerland County only posted an OBP of .308.

Providence is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Switzerland County, their loss dropped their record down to 14-13.

Coming up, Providence will take on University on Saturday. The Pioneers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Trailblazers have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season. Switzerland County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
