Basketball Recap: Riley Tuttle Key Part of a Team Effort in Thunderhawks Win

Wheatland-Grinnell's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They walked away with a 48-37 win over the Northern Valley Huskies. For the Thunderhawks, this counts as revenge for the 94-28 victory the Huskies walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2024.

Wheatland-Grinnell got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Riley Tuttle out in front who posted 13 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds. The dominant performance gave Tuttle a new career-high in assists. Daniel Mason was another key player, going 7 for 14 en route to 15 points.

Tuttle wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Wheatland-Grinnell was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northern Valley only racked up seven assists.

Despite the loss, Northern Valley had strong showings from Griffin McKinney, who scored seven points and 13 boards, and Tait Thalheim, who had 15 points. That was a full 40.5% of Northern Valley's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.

Wheatland-Grinnell moved to 4-6 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Northern Valley, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.

Wheatland-Grinnell has already played their next match, a 52-50 win against Western Plains on the 24th. As for Northern Valley, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 73-15 defeat against Logan/Palco on the 24th.
