Recap: Orangeville Broncos vs. Aquin Catholic Bulldogs
The Orangeville Broncos came tearing into Friday's match with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They managed a 58-54 victory over Aquin Catholic. That's another feather in the cap for Orangeville, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Orangeville's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Whitney Sullivan led the charge by dropping a double-double on 30 points and 16 rebounds. Sullivan hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Nadalee Doyle, who scored 17 points along with five steals.
Despite the loss, Aquin Catholic saw an underclassman step up: Paityn London scored 29 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. That was a full 53.7% of Aquin Catholic's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Megan Holder, who scored four points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Orangeville's victory was their 12th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-1. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 23.42 points. As for Aquin Catholic, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Orangeville will challenge Lena-Winslow at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lena-Winslow has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Aquin Catholic on the road again on Thursday and play against Pecatonica at 6:00 p.m. on January 25th.
