Baseball Recap: Cowan Comes Up Short

Cowan blew Muncie Central out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Thursday Muncie Central got their revenge. The Blackhawks fell just short of the Bearcats by a score of 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Blackhawks have suffered since May 16, 2024.

Jaydon Auker was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases and four runs. He has become a key player for Cowan: the team is 6-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Gentry Groves, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI and one double.

Cowan's defeat dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Muncie Central, their win bumped their record up to 4-14.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cowan will venture away from home to challenge Eastbrook at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Muncie Central, they will head out to face off against Mt. Vernon at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Marauders' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Bearcats' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
