Basketball Game Preview: Sandy Creek Patriots vs. Westover Patriots

Sandy Creek is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They blew past Monroe Area, posting an 84-32 victory. The Patriots have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 15 contests by 20 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Westover didn't have too much trouble with Northwest Whitfield on Tuesday as they won 69-51. Given the Patriots' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 71st, while the Bruins are ranked 239th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Westover's win came from a few key players Sandy Creek will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Greg Williams, who went 5-for-11 on his way to 11 points and seven rebounds. He is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last three games he's played. Tykwavious Johnson was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with 11 points and nine boards.

Westover smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in 14 consecutive matchups.

Westover's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-7. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.3 points over those games. As for Sandy Creek, their record is now 25-3.
