Baseball Recap: Cardinal Spellman Find Success

While Cardinal Spellman's victory against Rockland wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Cardinals sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 win over the Bulldogs on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Cardinals in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won three in a row.

Jason Cunningham made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits (and only one walk). Cardinal Spellman is 2-1 when Cunningham allows three or fewer earned runs, but 1-3 otherwise. Cunningham was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Cunningham wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Alsen, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. Alsen has become a key player for Cardinal Spellman: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 0-4 otherwise.

Cardinal Spellman's win bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Rockland, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.

Looking ahead, Cardinal Spellman will host Abington at 10:00 a.m. on Monday. As for Rockland, they will square off against South Shore Vo-Tech at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
