Baseball Game Preview: Caravel Academy Buccaneers vs. Woodbridge Raiders

The Caravel Academy Buccaneers will take on the Woodbridge Raiders on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Caravel Academy 3.6, Woodbridge 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Caravel Academy is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Delaware's top teams: Appoquinimink, who was ranked 20th at the time (Caravel Academy was ranked 13th). The Buccaneers skirted past the Jaguars 3-1. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Buccaneers as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Orvy Potts spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Caravel Academy is 4-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 6-7 otherwise.

At the plate, Caravel Academy's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jacob Goldstein, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Woodbridge). They blew past Glasgow 15-1 on Monday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Raiders considering their two-run performance the game before.

Woodbridge has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Caravel Academy, their win bumped their record up to 10-8.
