Basketball Recap: Aly Gassman Key Part of Team Effort in Indians Win

Southeast typically has all the answers at home, but on Saturday Girard proved too difficult a challenge. They strolled past the Southeast Pirates with points to spare, taking the game 61-43. For the Indians, this counts as revenge for the 44-37 win the Pirates walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2020.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Girard to victory, but perhaps none more so than Aly Gassman, who went 6-for-13 en route to 17 points in addition to six assists and three steals. Gassman is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last seven games she's played. Another player making a difference was Makenzee White, who went 6-for-12 to rack up 16 points and five rebounds.

The victory made it two in a row for Girard and bumps their season record up to 13-10. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.5 points over those games. As for Southeast, their loss dropped their record down to 16-7.

Coming up, Girard will challenge South Range at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Southeast does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
