Soccer Game Preview: River Ridge vs. Northwest Whitfield

The River Ridge Knights will face off against the Northwest Whitfield Bruins at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

River Ridge is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to five goals two weeks ago, they were much more limited against West Forsyth on Tuesday. They came up short against the Wolverines, falling 7-0. While losing is never fun, River Ridge can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia soccer rankings (they are ranked 70th, while West Forsyth are ranked first).

Meanwhile, Northwest Whitfield unfortunately witnessed the end of their eight-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of Dalton by a score of 4-3.

River Ridge has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season. As for Northwest Whitfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-3.

Everything went River Ridge's way against Northwest Whitfield when the teams last played back in March of 2024, as River Ridge made off with a 7-0 victory. Will the Knights repeat their success, or do the Bruins have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
