Softball Recap: Make It Nine in a Row for Buckingham Charter

Buckingham Charter waltzed into their match on Monday with eight straight wins... but they left with nine. They put the hurt on the Valley Christian Lions with a sharp 16-2 win. The Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by ten runs or more this season.

Haley Griffin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI.

In other batting news, Tamia Cendejas was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Ava Santamaria was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Buckingham Charter's victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Valley Christian, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.

Buckingham Charter has already played their next matchup, a 10-0 victory against Foresthill on the 30th. As for Valley Christian, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 14-5 win against Faith Christian on the 29th.
