Basketball Recap: Wharton Skates Past El Campo with Ease

Wharton lost to El Campo back in February of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. The Wharton Tigers blew past the El Campo Ricebirds 73-40. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Tigers.

Wharton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ja'Keon Jackson, who posted nine points in addition to five boards and four steals. Jackson has been hot recently, having posted four or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of J'Dynn Lewis, who went 6 for 11 on his way to 17 points.

Wharton's record is now 18-10. As for El Campo, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-15.

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Wharton Tigers duke it out with the La Marque Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in La Marque's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five contests. As for El Campo, they will welcome Needville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Needville has insisted on making their lastthree contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 2-1 during that stretch of close contests.
