Baseball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Jurupa Valley

While Jurupa Valley's victory against Eisenhower wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Jurupa Valley Jaguars won by a run and slipped past the Eisenhower Eagles 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Jaguars have posted since March 12, 2024.

Francisco Urena made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

Urena wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Julian Lopez, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Nicholas Higgins also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

The victory (which was Jurupa Valley's fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Eisenhower, they moved to 5-3 with that loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

Coming up, Jurupa Valley will be playing in front of their home fans against Western Christian at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Western Christian: 3.8, Jurupa Valley: 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Eisenhower, they will be taking part in a tournament against Murrieta Mesa at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
