Basketball Recap: Lewis County Sets Scoring Season-High Against Liberty

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lewis County). They breezed past the Liberty Mountaineers to the tune of 91-28 on Saturday. Given the Minutemen's advantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 30th, while the Mountaineers are ranked 113th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Lewis County was led to victory by Kenzie Egress and Ella Pinkney. Egress went 6-for-8 en route to 12 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals, while Pinkney went 6-for-8 to rack up 14 points and four steals. The dominant performance also gave Egress a new career-high in shooting accuracy (75%). Paelyn Hinkle was another key player, putting up 11 points and six assists.

Lewis County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in nine consecutive contests.

Lewis County is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.4 points over those games. Liberty's loss was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-17.

Coming up, Lewis County is taking a road trip to face off against Preston at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Lewis County has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. Liberty has already played their next game (against Moorefield), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
