Basketball Game Preview: Timpview Thunderbirds vs. American Fork Cavemen

The Timpview Thunderbirds will take on the American Fork Cavemen at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

On Friday, Timpview really took it to Timpanogos for the full four quarters, racking up a 69-39 win. The Thunderbirds haven't had any issues with the Timberwolves recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Timpview can attribute much of their success to Will Openshaw, who went 8-for-12 to rack up 18 points and five boards, and Dean Rueckert, who shot 57% from the field en route to 20 points and three steals. The dominant performance also gave Openshaw a new career-high in assists (four). Another player making a difference was Lincoln Holcombe, who posted seven points and seven rebounds.

Meanwhile, American Fork was able to grind out a solid win over Mt. Zion Baptist on Tuesday, taking the game 77-67.

Timpview better keep an eye on Bryce Mella. He was instrumental in American Fork's win, going 12-for-22 on his way to 33 points and five boards. The contest was Mella's fourth in a row with at least 18 points. Ashton Hucks was another key player, putting up ten points and six assists.

Timpview's victory bumped their record up to 2-0. As for American Fork, the win got them back to even at 1-1.

Timpview couldn't quite get it done against American Fork in their previous meeting back in December of 2019 as they fell 58-45. Can the Thunderbirds avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
