Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Latta

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Latta ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past the Hannah-Pamplico Raiders 5-4. Five seems to be a good number for the Vikings as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Mason Weatherford was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Latta is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 1-3 otherwise. Weatherford was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That double marked the first that he hit this season.

In other batting news, BW Berry was excellent, scoring a run while going 3-for-5. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024.

Latta kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

The win was the third in a row for Latta, bringing their record up to 3-4. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Hannah-Pamplico, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-3.

Coming up, Latta will head out to challenge Lake View at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lake View's pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so Latta's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Hannah-Pamplico, they will host East Clarendon at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
