Football Recap: Newcastle Starts Season with Victory on the Road

Football Recap: Newcastle Racers vs. Bartlesville Bruins
Newcastle had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They enjoyed a cozy 51-34 victory over the Bartlesville Bruins. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Racers also won the last time the pair played back in August of 2024.
Kaden Longman went supernova, picking up 141 receiving yards and two touchdowns. He also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making five total tackles and defending one pass in addition to snagging an interception. Harmon Warmuth also deserves a shout-out for his two scores.
Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 21 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Longman, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Newcastle didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Longman, Alec Shumard, and Braydon Cantrell picked up one apiece. Another thorn in Bartlesville's side was Preston Scagnetti, who forced one fumble, made ten total tackles (2.0 for loss), and defended one pass.
Despite the loss, Bartlesville saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Michael Kent threw for 305 yards and three TDs, and also rushed for 103 yards. Kent is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in each of the last three games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Sutton Williams, who rushed for 45 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Coming up, Newcastle will venture away from home to face off against Tuttle at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Bartlesville, they will welcome Claremore at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
