Soccer Game Preview: Carl Junction vs. Monett

Carl Junction is 1-8 against Monett since September of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will host the Cubs at 6:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Monett better have a healthy lead at halftime, because if Carl Junction's game on Tuesday is any indication, that's when Carl Junction really gets things going. The Bulldogs' defense stepped up to hand Marshfield a 4-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for Carl Junction, who have now won five matchups by three goals or more so far this season.

Nolan Couk and Ryan Landolt scored all four of Carl Junction's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 22 goals.

Meanwhile, Monett's game on Tuesday was all tied up 1-1 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past McDonald County 4-3. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for Monett's offense, which had struggled in the games prior.

Monett is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 41 goals over those 12 matches. As for Carl Junction, their win bumped their record up to 9-6.
