Football Recap: Groves Comes Up Short + How To Watch

Groves extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to nine on Friday, dropping them down to 0-3. They were outmatched by the Long County Blue Tide and fell 50-20. If the Rebels were looking for revenge after losing 38-6 to the Blue Tide when the teams met back in September of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Despite the loss, Groves still got an impressive performance from Kaleb Detty, who threw for 319 yards and three TDs while completing 90.6% of his passes, and also rushed for 70 yards. 89 of Detty's passing yards were hauled in by Ronald Williams, who also brought in two receiving touchdowns.

As for Long County, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 35.3 points this season.

Long County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cortney Charles led the charge by rushing for 130 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only five carries. Charles' longest rush was for an incredible 70 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jehmiel Pettis, who gained 78 total yards and two touchdowns.

Groves wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 31-18 defeat against Islands on the 12th. As for Long County, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 40-34 loss against Liberty County on the 12th.
