Basketball Recap: Genoa-Hugo/Karval Takes a Loss

After flying high against Deer Trail on Friday, Genoa-Hugo/Karval came back down to earth. The Genoa-Hugo/Karval Pirates fell 48-39 to the Kit Carson Wildcats on Saturday. The Pirates were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Defeat or not, Genoa-Hugo/Karval got some senior leadership from Shane Reid and Eddy Franey. Reid dropped a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Franey posted ten points and eight boards. Those 15 points gave Reid a new career-high.

Kit Carson got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Josiah Irwin out in front who went 11-for-16 on his way to 24 points and eight boards. Brennan Framel was another key player, putting up five points and ten rebounds.

Genoa-Hugo/Karval's loss dropped their record down to 4-14. As for Kit Carson, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-11.

Coincidentally, Genoa-Hugo/Karval and Kit Carson will both be playing Eads the next time they take the court. Genoa-Hugo/Karval will head out to face Eads at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, while Kit Carson will head out to face them at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
