Baseline recap Oct. 16, 2012
Upland was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Glendora. The Highlanders/Scots came in at 22 in the state poll after placing at number 37 last week.
The Tartans moved up to 192 from 251 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Baseline. Glendora climbed the ranks as a result of losing to Upland 47-26.
Tim Salter's team's dynamic duo of Nate Romine and Anthony Romero proved tough for Jerry Lewallen's team to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Romine threw for 282 yards and two touchdowns and Romero had 106 yards receiving. James Johnson Jr. helped Upland's passing attack out by catching three balls for 77 yards.
Cade Lindsey was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 166 yards on 39 carries as the Tartans topped the Tartans. Teammate Briton Noskof added to the ground attack by rushing for 24 yards.
6-foot-0 quarterback Romine of Upland is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1344. He has also thrown nine touchdowns. On the ground, Glendora's Lindsey has rushed for 1190 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Jordan Villamin. The Etiwanda star has 22 catches for 447 yards.
A big matchup in Baseline this week will be when Los Osos takes on the Highlanders/Scots. At the moment, the Grizzlies are in third, while Upland is in first.
There should be lots of points scored when Los Osos and the Highlanders/Scots face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Tom Martinez's team comes in having scored 201 this season, while Upland has scored 284. The Grizzlies scored 41 points last week as they topped Alta Loma.
The Highlanders/Scots extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Tartans, 47-26. The victory was the seventh in a row for Upland.
