Basketball Recap: Rank Disadvantage No Problem for Empowering Others Prep

Empowering Others Prep can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Saturday. They strolled past the Marian Eagles with points to spare, taking the game 61-47. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Kings' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 294th, while the Eagles are ranked 94th).

Despite the defeat, Marian had strong showings from Mathias Baye, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 15 rebounds, and Ehud Tesfaye, who posted 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Malik Whitfield, who earned six points and five boards.

Empowering Others Prep's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-7 and their overall record up to 13-13. As for Marian, their loss dropped their record down to 21-7.

Empowering Others Prep will head out on the road to square off against St. John's at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in St. John's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five matchups. Marian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
