Football Recap: Canutillo Snaps Three-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Canutillo dropped to 4-3 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They took a 35-21 bruising from the Chapin Huskies. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Huskies apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Canutillo lost, don't look at Cesar Huerta. Despite the final result, he rushed for 84 yards and one TD, and also threw for 161 yards and one touchdown.

As for Chapin, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 41.0 points over those games.

Daveon Singleton had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 214 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 12.6 yards per carry, and also throwing for 89 yards and one TD on only five passes. His longest rush was for an impressive 65 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

Looking ahead, Canutillo will challenge Hanks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Chapin, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Jefferson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Huskies will be up against the Silver Foxes' rather soft defense (which has allowed 39.43 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
