The Waynedale Golden Bears will square off against the Springfield Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Waynedale has given up an average of 8.6 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Waynedale came up short against Hillsdale on Monday, falling 13-1. The Golden Bears haven't had much luck with the Falcons recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.
Waynedale saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hannah Rodhe, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
Meanwhile, Springfield waltzed into their game on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the Blue Devils with a sharp 17-4 victory. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by six runs or more this season.
Caitlin Blankenship looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. What's more, she posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in May of 2024.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Gina Romeo, who went 2-for-3 with six RBI, two triples, and three runs. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more RBI the last four times she's played. Giuliana Battaglini was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Springfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in four consecutive contests.
Springfield's record is now 11-9. As for Waynedale, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-12.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Waynedale hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .358. However, it's not like Springfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .325. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
