Baseball Game Preview: Shafter Generals vs. Taft Wildcats

For the second straight game, Shafter will face off against Taft. The Generals will venture away from home to take on the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Shafter is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.

Shafter will bounce into Thursday's contest after beating Taft, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. The Generals skirted past the Wildcats 5-4.

The team relied heavily on Andy Gomez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Casanova-Balderrama, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Shafter pushed their record up to 11-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Taft, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-12.

Shafter's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's match. The Generals have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.3 stolen bases per game.
