Baseball Recap: Santa Fe Trail Comes Up Short

If Santa Fe Trail was riding high fresh off their 15-2 takedown of Atchison County last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Chargers fell just short of the Baldwin Bulldogs by a score of 6-5 on Tuesday. The Chargers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Santa Fe Trail saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jalen Smith, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Santa Fe Trail now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Baldwin, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.

Coming up, Santa Fe Trail will face off against Iola at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Mustangs will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Chargers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Baldwin, they will square off against Osawatomie at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Trojans' pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so the Bulldogs' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
