Basketball Recap: Landon Schoenberger's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Cheylin over Western Plains

It was a proper cat-fight when Cheylin took on Western Plains on Friday. The Cheylin Cougars fell to the Western Plains Bobcats 45-40. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bobcats apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Cheylin lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Landon Schoenberger, who posted 15 points along with five assists and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Wright, who put up 11 points and four steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Cheylin and nudges their season record down to 5-5. As for Western Plains, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-1-1.

Cheylin will welcome Hi-Plains at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cheylin is facing Hi-Plains at the right time seeing as Hi-Plains is stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for Western Plains, they will head out on the road to square off against Wheatland-Grinnell at 7:30 p.m. on January 24th. Western Plains' defense has only allowed 28.6 points per game this season, so Wheatland-Grinnell's offense will have their work cut out for them.
