The Covenant Day Lions will square off against the Harrells Christian Academy Crusaders at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Covenant Day has given up an average of 39.4 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Covenant Day is headed into Friday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight games on Friday. They were dealt a 43-6 defeat at the hands of Trinity Christian. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 307th, while the Crusaders are ranked 123rd).
Meanwhile, Harrells Christian Academy's offense rose to the challenge against a Lions defense that boasted an average of only 13.25 points allowed on Friday. The Crusaders really took it to Hickory Grove Christian for the full four quarters, racking up a 41-7 win. Considering the Crusaders have won four games by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Covenant Day better keep an eye on Jeremiah Davis. He was instrumental in Harrells Christian Academy's win, rushing for 146 yards and a pair of scores on only six carries. Those 146 rushing yards gave Davis a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Dashaun McKoy, who gained 30 total yards and two touchdowns.
Harrells Christian Academy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 361 rushing yards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their rushing yard total in three consecutive contests.
Harrells Christian Academy didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as McKoy, Jesse Smith, and Davis picked up one apiece. Smith got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Covenant Day's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Harrells Christian Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.
Everything went Covenant Day's way against Harrells Christian Academy in their previous meeting back in August of 2024, as Covenant Day made off with a 28-6 win. In that matchup, the Lions amassed a halftime lead of 21-0, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
