Basketball Recap: Staunton River Find Success

Staunton River had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They had just enough and edged out the Hidden Valley Titans 39-36. Given the Golden Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 36th, while the Titans are ranked 143rd), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Staunton River's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 21.0 points on average over those games. As for Hidden Valley, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last 11 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-12 record this season.
