Basketball Recap: Damarla Thompson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Key West over St. Brendan

Key West was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 25th straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a hard 44-28 fall against the St. Brendan Sabres. While losing is never fun, the Conchs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 567th, while the Sabres are ranked 278th).

Key West lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Damarla Thompson, who posted five points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Lilee Gage, who had four points along with eight boards and three blocks.

St. Brendan can attribute much of their success to Bella Perez, who put up 23 points. Those 23 points gave Perez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Claudia Luis, who earned ten points.

Key West's loss dropped their record down to 0-9. As for St. Brendan, their record is now 8-4.

Key West has already played their next match, a 77-50 defeat against Mater Lakes Academy on the 14th. As for St. Brendan, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 57-42 loss against Archbishop McCarthy on the 14th.
