Soccer Game Preview: Oberlin vs. Fairview

The Oberlin Phoenix will head out to challenge the Fairview Warriors at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Oberlin is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 2.6 goals per game this season.

Oberlin is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Columbia just ended the team's three-match winning streak on Wednesday. They fell 5-3 to the Raiders. Kylie Walter probably wasn't too happy after the contest: she scored every single goal for Oberlin and still walked away on the losing team.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Fairview). Their defense stepped up to hand Brooklyn an 8-0 shutout on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for Fairview in their matchups with Brooklyn: they've now won five in a row.

Fairview's lineup was just a bit different on Thursday as Beka Loescher got a bit more time on the pitch (60 vs. her season average of 36.4). Loescher made the most of the opportunity, scoring a goal and one assist A few more games like that and she might be seeing even more time going forward.

Oberlin's loss dropped their record down to 7-4-2. As for Fairview, their win bumped their record up to 6-3-3.

Oberlin suffered a grim 4-0 defeat to Fairview in their previous meeting back in September of 2024. Can the Phoenix avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
