La Vernia took a three-set defeat the last time they faced off against Davenport, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Bears won by a set and slipped past the Wolves 2-1. Winning may never get old, but the Bears sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.

La Vernia had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next two. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 19-25, 25-13, 25-23.

La Vernia's victory bumped their record up to 18-5. As for Davenport, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 21-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. La Vernia will square off against Randolph at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Davenport, they will challenge New Braunfels at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
