It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 71-42, which was the final score in Lafayette Renaissance Charter Academy's's tilt against Marian on Friday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Lafayette Renaissance Charter Academy came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 164th in Louisiana, while Marian is ranked 353rd in Texas).
Marian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Malik Whitefield, who scored 15 points along with 5 assists and 5 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Mathias Baye, who dropped a triple-double on 11 points, 19 rebounds, and 11 blocks.
Lafayette Renaissance Charter Academy now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Marian, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season.
Lafayette Renaissance Charter Academy will be playing in front of their home fans against North Iberville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Marian's road trip will continue as they head out to face LaGrange at 10:00 a.m. on December 9th. LaGrange is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
