Softball Game Preview: New Brighton Lions vs. Shenango Wildcats

New Brighton hasn't had much luck against Shenango recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Lions will be playing at home against the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. New Brighton will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.

New Brighton is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Freedom Area with a sharp 24-3 win on Friday. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by ten runs or more this season.

The team relied heavily on Dixie Wall, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, five RBI, and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.

New Brighton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. They are 4-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, Shenango fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Riverside on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 2-1. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Kennedi Lynn spent all 7.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Shenango saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emma Herb, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Shenango's defeat dropped their record down to 7-7. As for New Brighton, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-7.
