Football Recap: McQueen Lancers vs. Bishop Manogue Miners
McQueen unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell 36-29 to the Bishop Manogue Miners on Friday. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it seven in a row.
Several Lancers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Nason Rodriguez, who rushed for 168 yards and one TD while picking up 8.8 yards per carry. Rodriguez really tore up the turf during one magnificent 76-yard run. Ryder Tucker was another key passer, throwing for 200 yards and three touchdowns on only 18 passes.
Bishop Manogue had a senior duo take command as Brandon Mann threw for 199 yards and a pair of TDs and Amir McGruder rushed for 90 yards and three scores. 87 of Mann's passing yards were hauled in by Nate Simmons, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.
McQueen and Bishop Manogue should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Nevada Rankings. The Lancers (ranked 24th) will meet Union Mine (ranked 399th) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Bishop Manogue will face off against St. Mary's at 7:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (4 vs. 38).
