Soccer Game Preview: Kearney vs. Marian

The Kearney Bearcats will challenge the Marian Crusaders at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Kearney is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. Their defense stepped up to hand Millard South a 5-0 shutout. Winning may never get old, but Kearney sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Their offense was hitting Millard South from everywhere, as five different players booted in a goal.

Meanwhile, Marian faced Lincoln Southeast in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Crusaders were the clear victors by a 5-0 margin over the Knights. Give Marian's defense some credit: that's the team's seventh straight shutout.

Marian's victory bumped their record up to 15-3. As for Kearney, their win bumped their record up to 17-2.

Kearney skirted past Marian 1-0 when the teams last played back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bearcats since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
