Baseball Recap: Hickory Wins Going Away Against Oscar Smith

Hickory came out on top against Oscar Smith on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run fifth inning. The Hawks blew past the Tigers 12-2. The result was nothing new for the Hawks, who have now won five matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Ryan Barks looked comfortable as he tossed 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits.

At the plate, Hickory got a massive performance out of Brayden Bachman, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Ryan Kennedy, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Hickory hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are 4-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Hickory has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Oscar Smith, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-6 record this season.

Hickory will face off against Cape Henry Collegiate at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Dolphins will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something the Hawks surely won't give up without a fight. As for Oscar Smith, they will square off against Deep Creek at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday. The Tigers are facing the Hornets at the right time seeing as the Hornets are stuck on an eight-game losing streak.
