Baseball Game Preview: Long Beach Poly Jackrabbits vs. Roosevelt Mustangs

The Long Beach Poly Jackrabbits will face off against the Roosevelt Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Long Beach Poly 3.5, Roosevelt 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Long Beach Poly's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Lakewood 2-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Jackrabbits have posted since February 28th.

Not much got past Ryan King, who gave up just two hits to keep Lakewood off the board. King also tossed a walk, which is notable because Long Beach Poly is 3-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 4-8 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Long Beach Poly's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Fausto Gaxiola, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base. That stolen base was Gaxiola's first of the season.

Meanwhile, Roosevelt waltzed into their game on Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top against the Braves by a score of 4-1.

Long Beach Poly is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Roosevelt, their win bumped their record up to 9-6.
