Recap: Cibola Cougars vs. Sandia Matadors
This season hasn't been kind to The Cibola Cougars, who are still winless after their tenth game. They took a 10-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of Sandia. Cibola lost against Sandia in their previous head to head back in October of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 40-34 score last time.
The team lost despite holding Sandia to a paltry no rushing yards and no passing yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Cibola's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out six times before it was all said and done. Sandia's QB won't forget Hayes Baum anytime soon given Baum sacked him six times.
Cibola's loss was their seventh straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-10. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 10-3 Volcano Vista and 7-3 Cleveland (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 63.6% over those games). As for Sandia, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season.
Cibola does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Sandia also has no future games currently scheduled.
