Soccer Game Preview: Monrovia vs. Martinsville

The Monrovia Bulldogs will challenge the Martinsville Artesians at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Monrovia has seven straight wins, Martinsville has eight straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the pitch.

Martinsville better have a healthy lead at halftime, because if Monrovia's game on Saturday is any indication, that's when Monrovia really gets things going. The Bulldogs put the hurt on Triton Central with a sharp 6-2 victory. Monrovia might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matches by three goals or more this season.

They hit Triton Central with a four-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Nellie Standeford (2), Trinity Inglert (2), Bella Flynn, and Addie Harris.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Martinsville's offense. They came up short against Bloomington South on Tuesday, falling 10-0. While losing is never fun, Martinsville can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana soccer rankings (they are ranked 233rd, while Bloomington South are ranked seventh).

Monrovia's win bumped their record up to 12-3. As for Martinsville, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-14.

Monrovia beat Martinsville 4-2 in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Do the Bulldogs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Artesians turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
