Appleton North faced Middleton in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Lightning fell just short of the Cardinals by a score of 3-2. The Lightning's defeat signaled the end of their nine-game winning streak.

NATHAN RAMUS paced Appleton North's offense, picking up 17 kills. RAMUS got some help from SPENCER MUNSON and his 23 assists.

Appleton North's loss dropped their record down to 25-7. As for Middleton, the win keeps them at an undefeated 32-0.

Coming up, Appleton North will take on Kaukauna in a tournament on Saturday. As for Middleton, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Marquette University at 6:00 p.m.
