Football Recap: Newman Grove/St. Edward Takes a Loss

Newman Grove/St. Edward played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against the David City Scouts, falling 49-8. The Panthers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-0.

Griffin Nelson threw for 61 yards and one touchdown. Nolan Werts was his top target, picking up 36 receiving yards. On the ground, Billy Fyfe rushed for 78 yards.

Leading David City to victory were Cohen Denker and Daren Vodicka. Denker rushed for 167 yards and one score while picking up 9.8 yards per carry, while Vodicka rushed for 135 yards and a pair of TDs on only ten carries. Denker's longest rush was for an impressive 50 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Carter Nickolite also helped with two touchdowns in total.

Newman Grove/St. Edward's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for David City, the win got them back to even at 2-2.

Coming up, Newman Grove/St. Edward will square off against Humphrey-Lindsay at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. As for David City, they will face off against Twin River at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Scouts will be up against the Titans' rather soft defense (which has allowed 37.5 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
