Basketball Recap: Calvary Baptist Academy Patriots vs. Cross Lanes Christian Warriors
The Calvary Baptist Academy Patriots proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by 30) but on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Cross Lanes Christian 60-57. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Calvary Baptist Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Matthew DeGroff, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds. DeGroff has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jacob Vaughn, who scored 15 points.
The victory makes it two in a row for Calvary Baptist Academy and bumps their season record up to 10-13. As for Cross Lanes Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-5.
Calvary Baptist Academy will square off against the Eagles at 2:00 p.m. on Monday. Robert C. Byrd is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for Cross Lanes Christian, they will head out on the road to face off against the Irish at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Charleston Catholic presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Warriors in West Virginia (the Irish are ranked fourth, while the Warriors are ranked 58th).
