Softball Game Preview: Northwest Guilford Vikings vs. Oak Grove Grizzlies

The Northwest Guilford Vikings are taking a road trip to take on the Oak Grove Grizzlies at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Northwest Guilford's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Ragsdale as Northwest Guilford made off with a 20-0 win. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matches by 20 runs or more this season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Oak Grove). They blew past Asheboro 20-0 on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Grizzlies in their matchups with the Blue Comets: they've now won eight in a row.

Kate Bertschi made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Bertschi was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-1. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (two).

In other batting news, Oak Grove let Chloe Smith and Sydney Doty run wild. Smith scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances, while Doty went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. The dominant performance gave Doty a new career-high in RBI. Another player making a difference was Isabelle Lawrence, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.

Oak Grove always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .844. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Asheboro only posted an OBP of .111.

Northwest Guilford pushed their record up to 4-5 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 22.7 runs. As for Oak Grove, their record is now 3-5.
