Softball Preview: Highland Hornets vs. Moriarty Pintos
Highland hasn't had much luck against Moriarty recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Highland Hornets will host the Moriarty Pintos at 3:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Highland came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 27-18 to Albuquerque Academy.
Meanwhile, Moriarty had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They blew past Del Norte 26-4 on Tuesday.
Isabella Gallegos made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Gallegos was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-5.
In other batting news, Shae Rios was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Antonette Tumale was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-5.
Moriarty always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .612. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Del Norte only posted an OBP of .458.
Highland's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Moriarty, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.
