Basketball Recap: Deahri Hayes' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Austin College and Career Academy over Manley

It was a proper cat-fight when Austin College and Career Academy challenged Manley on Monday. The Austin College and Career Academy Tigers lost to the Manley Wildcats on the road by a 56-41 margin. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 50-32 back in December of 2024.

Austin College and Career Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was DeAhri Hayes, who posted 14 points. That was a full 34.1% of Austin College and Career Academy's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Mariah Kirkland, who put up 12 points.

Jaklaya Hunter was her usual excellent self, going 19 for 30 to rack up 48 points along with six steals and five rebounds for Manley. The contest was Hunter's 16th in a row with at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ja Von Willis, who scored five points and nine boards.

This is the second loss in a row for Austin College and Career Academy and nudges their season record down to 7-6. As for Manley, they pushed their record up to 14-5 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home.

Austin College and Career Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Manley, they have already played their next game, a 58-52 win against Wells on the 5th.
